Apple should actually design software in addition to consumer electronics

The macbooks and ipods are so nice. But I think a lot of the software is kind of annoying to use. iTunes and iPhoto, especially, seem to have a lot of cryptic buttons in random places.

And what is with the delete key not being a shortcut to ‘Move to Trash’ in the finder?

it’s command + delete to move a file to the trash in finder.

If simply pressing the “delete” key moved any selected items to the trash, more accidental deletions would occur… hence: “command”+”delete.”

Should do this

I already have at least two ways I can fix it if I make a mistake and hit delete when I don’t mean to—undo and actually opening the trash and getting it out. I’m pretty sure I accidentally hit delete a lot less than I actually delete something on purpose.

Since it seems unlikely that apple will change their decision, anyone know if I remap it?

You can indeed recover files from the trash… if you notice it’s happened. If you don’t notice, you’re out of luck.

Of course you hit the delete key accidentally fewer times than you delete files intentionally. The issue is that one accidental deletion can be disasterous.

I don’t know of any way to remap the delete key as you’ve mentioned… editing the plist perhaps? If you find a way, remap at your own peril.

I agree that the placement and design of some controls in iTunes and iPhoto is somewhat haphazard. The new version of iPhoto has corrected this to some degree.
