Well it’s here: the MacBook Air. It’s weighs 3 lbs, has a 13.3” screen, no internal optical drive, a 1.6 GHz C2D, and a non-removable 5 hour battery.

So what do you guys all think? Does it meet your expectations or are you left wanting more (or less)?

This is a really popular idea and there are obviously a lot of really smart people on shoulddothis, so what features would you like to see on a Apple sub-note?

What size screen? Should it be a tablet, perhaps with a multi-touch display and no keyboard? Or should it be a more traditional subnote? Does it need an optical drive?

    Should do this

time for apple to catch up to the rest of the industry & release a truly TINY notebook.

You’ll be prying the 12” from my cold, dead hands. UNLESS they release an intel subnote.

    Should do this

Seeing as they’ve made the very best small notebooks at other points in time—PowerBook Duo series, 2400, 12” Powerbook G4—it would be great to see them continue the tradition.

    Should not do this

The iPhone is more than sub-notebook for my needs. I use it to check e-mail, surf the Web, listen to music, watch videos, organize calendar and contact information, look at photos, take notes, plus all the stuff a laptop can’t do (make calls and send text messages), so a sub-notebook would only be giving me a bigger screen. No thanks!

Bleh. Not everything needs to be constantly shrinking.
